Flooring installation and repairs in Memphis has seen an uptick in request for flooring estimates.  This is due in part to the new available material for certain style of flooring.  As we discuss each style we will layout the value of each style and some pro’s and con’s of materials.  We will start out with the leading choice of flooring as of right now.

Vinyl Plank Flooring or (LVP)

Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring is what is most popular as of right now.  The reason for this is that this may very well be the last floor you have installed while you own your home.  This is due to the fact it is 100% water proof.  Out of all the flooring you can have installed vinyl plank flooring is by far the most cost effective choice.

Vinyl plank flooring comes in a wide range of colors and patterns for any floor project.  It also does not require a pad to be installed on thus eliminating extra work and cost.  There are a variety of lengths and widths to choose from with vinyl plank flooring that you could spend days trying to decide.  But why reinvent the wheel when all we need to do is compare other projects to yours to determine the best color, pattern and size of the vinyl plank flooring.

Laminate Plank Flooring

Laminate plank flooring has been around for a while now and has been the choice engineered flooring over traditional hardwood flooring.  That is because you can get this flooring for as little as $0.98 per square foot.  However with a low cost comes low quality and over time you will be unhappy with that decision because you will need to replace it in a short time.

Additional reasons to avoid this type of flooring are what makes vinyl plank flooring the best option.  Laminate plank flooring’s wear layer is thin and scratches easy and is not pet friendly but then again no flooring other than concrete or tile is pet friendly.  If you have a flood and water gets under the flooring you will have to replace the floor as over time the flooring will swell.  When choosing this flooring you will need to purchase additional padding to put down before the floor.  There are styles of this flooring that have the pad built onto the planks to eliminate this step as well.

Tile flooring

Tile flooring comes in a lot of colors, styles and shapes.  It is the most durable floor option one can get for the money and can be purchased for as little as $0.50 per square foot.  However this floor type requires a lot of preparation before laying it down.  It must be installed on a level sub surface so that the tile will remain level during application and that it don’t crack in the future.  So a float may need to be done on the surface before applying the tile.

The process to apply tile takes a longer time to complete than plank flooring types.  You will need tile, tile mortar and grout with other utilities and tools such as tile trowel, tile spacers, grout float and sponge.  One thing most all people don’t have is a tile wet saw for cutting the tile as well.  While tile floors are a good option they are not to be installed by a novice.

Traditional Hardwood Floors

Traditional hardwood floors have the most beautiful finishes to them.  They can be purchased in finished or unfinished surfaces.  The reason you would purchase an unfinished hardwood flooring is because you want to have it custom stained and coated to your desired look.  While finished is a what you see is what you get product and is installed without the need to do any finish coating.

The price range of finished hardwood flooring is around $2.29 per square foot and goes up from there.  While there isn’t a set amount for every project you will need to figure the high end of your project and not the low end.  With that said you can expect to pay between $6 and $15 per square foot installed for hardwood flooring.
